The German Requiem by Bruno Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, a "rare masterpiece", is finally available for the first time in Japan! The Brahms "German Requiem" by Bruno Walter has been released in five live recordings (1) Stockholm, 1950, (2) New York Philharmonic Orchestra (NYP) at Carnegie in 1952, (3) Italian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Rome in 1952, (4) Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Edinburgh in 1953, and (5) NYP at Carnegie in 1954), as well as in a live recording in December 1954, and in a recording by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Edinburgh in 1954. (4) in Edinburgh in 1953, (5) at Carnegie Hall in 1954, and (6) at Carnegie Hall in 1954, as well as a session recording (Columbia Records at that time) made in December 1954 with the NYP under his baton. And on UHQCD! In the 1950/51 season, Walter had the opportunity to record Brahms' work with NYP, but decided against it due to the cost of soloists and chorus. The live performance in 1952, (2) was sung in English and (3) was sung in Italian. The second performance (4) was given at the Edinburgh Festival in September 1953.Under Walter's deep, intense, and profound emotion, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra sounded strong, supple, and beautiful, while Sefried and Fischer-Dieskau sang movingly! Fischer-Dieskau was 28 years old when he performed with Walter for the first time. In his "Autobiography," Fischer-Dieskau recounts his memories of rehearsals and instruction at Walter's own piano. The choir organized for the festival is a fine one, backed by the English choral tradition. The second funeral march and the sixth "Day of Wrath" showed a tremendous power and excitement with the orchestra, solo chorus, and chorus working in unison. On September 8 and 10, 1953, at the Edinburgh Festival, he performed the all-Brahms Pro ("Tragic Overture" and "Piano Concerto") and the "Piano Concerto" at the Edinburgh Festival.
