Description:
Deutsche Grammophon Celebrates 125th Anniversary with LP Release2023 Deutsche Grammophon will celebrate its 125th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, Deutsche Grammophon will be releasing LPs over the course of a year. First, three recently released CD titles will be released on LP for International Women's Day (March 8): the album that won the Grammy Award for "Best Orchestral Performance" in 2022, the first symphony by a black woman performed by a leading American orchestra in 1933, and Florence Price's Symphony No. 1, which won the Grammy Award for "Best Symphony by a Black Woman" in 1933. Florence Price's Symphony No. 1. Price was well versed in American folk music, Negro spirituals, and church music, and her work reflects her own experiences as a black woman in the post-Civil War era. Then there is Symphony No. 3, commissioned by the "Federal Music Project" at the peak of the Great Depression. This risk-taking symphony, which incorporates modern techniques, expresses an even wider range of emotions than the first symphony. These two symphonies are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and the album recorded in Philadelphia in 2021 won the Grammy Award for "Best Orchestral Performance" in 2022.
